The purpose of Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity ReStore home improvement outlets is simple: to support affordable homeownership in the Twin Cities by offering shoppers great deals that keep items out of the landfill. But if you have questions about what you can donate—or how—you're in the right place. In this episode of DIY Friday at the WCCO studio, New Brighton ReStore Manager Jan Hagerman shares everything you need to know.
Twin Cities Habitat supported 139 families to homeownership from July 1, 2023 through June 30, 2024. And all proceeds from ReStore go directly toward those the construction or repair of those homes! That means that every single purchase at and donation to ReStore helps local families access stable, affordable housing.
If it came from the hardware store or could be used for home maintenance, repair, or furnishing, there's a good chance we'll take it. Businesses, builders, individuals, and more donate to ReStore. (You can take a look at our Donation Guidelines for a more detailed list of what we can and can't accept.) If you're replacing a usable light fixture, donate it to ReStore instead of tossing it in the trash. Or, if you're clearing out your garage before winter, donate garden supplies through the end of September or snow shovels in October.
Donating to ReStore is easy—and free! If your items can fit in your vehicle, you can drop off your donation at our Minneapolis or New Brighton locations during business hours. For larger donations or upholstered furniture, you can schedule a free pickup online. We also offer a priority option. Our drivers pick up donations Monday through Friday!
