1. Twin Cities Habitat ReStore is a great place to start because we have lots of raw materials for just about any project. We also have an assortment of tools that will help you get the job done.

What you'll need:

  • 4x4 lumber
  • Saw
  • Drill and drill bit
  • Wood screws
  • Outdoor lighting spikes
  • Blowtorch (optional)
  • Wire brush (optional)

Items for outdoor lighting.

2. Cut 4x4 lumber at varying lengths. Be creative. The length of your cuts can be whatever you like. Each piece will later be screwed together, so make lengths that looks good to you.

3. Drill holes at one end of each 4x4. Each hole should be slightly larger that the LED light stake so they can be easily inserted at the top.

 Drilling 4 by 4s.

4. Connect the 4x4's with screws

Using blowtorch on project.

5. [Optional] Give the wood a blowtorch treatment. Make sure you don't get too close, and keep the torch moving at all times to avoid making dark spots. Be sure to follow any directions and precautions listed on the torch.

Wire brush cleaning.

6. [Optional] Use a wire brush to clean up excess soot and to bring out the wood grain.

Finished lighting project.

7. Insert LED lights in the holes you already made and find the perfect place to display your new creation!
