It is easy to make a fun and functional shelf out of an old shutter, shelf brackets, and some hooks — and everything you need for this project can be purchased at the Twin Cities Habit ReStore for less than $15!
ReStore's Jan Hagerman demonstrates the DIY craft project in this edition of ReStoration Corner.
The shutters are easy to prepare. Take off all the hardware, paint with a fun color, then screw the shutter back together so it's rigid.
You treat the shelf brackets the same way. Paint them a fun color.
For the hooks, you can use vintage doorknobs, modern hooks, even wrought iron.
Attach the shutters to the shelf supports at a right angle to form the shelf. Add the hooks, and you're ready to hang leashes, bathrobes, or anything else.
Your gift unlocks bright futures! Donate now to create, preserve, and promote affordable homeownership in the Twin Cities.
