In our world today, going without plastic is hard—almost impossible. But most of the plastic we use, from plastic bags to packaging, ends up in landfills. Thankfully, there are simple things we can all do to reduce plastic waste and help our planet.
In this DIY Friday segment at the WCCO studio, New Brighton ReStore Manager Jan Hagerman shares easy ways to make a difference:
Switch to a reusable water bottle
Use reusable containers for food instead of buying single-serving packages
Bring your own container to take home leftovers at restaurants
Skip the plastic silverware if you don't need it
Invest in reusable sandwich bags and food wrap
Bring your own bag when shopping for groceries
Use dryer balls instead of dryer sheets (believe it or not, they contain plastic)
and more!
As Jan often says, "We can't all do everything, but we can all do something." That's how we can make a difference, together. Watch the video below for more ideas from Jan!
Since 2016, Jan's been a regular on WCCO's DIY Friday segment. Check out her other DIY Friday videos for more inspiration. She covers topics from crafts and gardening to repurposing furniture and home improvement!
