In the latest episode of DIY Friday at the WCCO studio, New Brighton ReStore Manager Jan shares simple, affordable, and safe ways to clean your home. Many household cleaning products are full of chemicals, some of which are harmful for your health. Keep reading for chemical-free cleaning tips!

Many DIY cleaning products can be made with baking soda, vinegar, rubbing alcohol, cornstarch, essential oils for scent, and olive oil. Here are natural cleaning options Jan uses in her own home:

  • Glass cleaner: Mix equal parts rubbing alcohol and vinegar, plus a bit of cornstarch

  • Carpet cleaner: Use baking soda with essential oils (you can change scents seasonally), sprinkle on carpet, and vacuum

  • All-purpose cleaner: Combine equal parts vinegar and water with one teaspoon of dish soap; add essential oils

Tip: Before creating your homemade cleaning products, add orange peels to vinegar and let soak for a fresh smell.

Jan also recommends microfiber cloths—just make sure they don't go in the dryer (or else they'll lose absorbency). You can also find washcloths and towels at thrift stores!
