If you want to upgrade your space with tile or backsplash but don't know where to start, this episode of DIY Friday is for you! Jan Hagerman, New Brighton ReStore Manager, visited the WCCO studio to demonstrate how to grout your own tile.

According to Jan, doing a backsplash or tile isn't difficult. You just have to know a few things:

  • Are you using floor tile or wall tile?
  • What kind of grout do you need - sanded or unsanded? Typically, unsanded grout is used for walls.

Once your tile and grout are ready, use tile adhesive to put your tile in place. Then add the grout, working upward at about a 45-degree angle. After it's filled, wipe off as much as you can. The tile will still be dirty, but you can use a damp rag to clean it once the grout dries.

If this is a new DIY project for you, you can always start by practicing with something smaller. In the video below, Jan shows how to make a breakfast tray with an old cabinet door and some tile.

Once you're ready to tackle your own DIY grout-and-tile project, big or small, stop by ReStore! They have tile and other materials to help make your DIY dreams come true.
