With Father's Day coming up, now's the time to head to your nearest ReStore for some DIY gift inspiration. We've compiled a list of four of our favorite projects that require only a few materials and can be done in an hour or less!
Start by picking up a used cabinet door at one of our ReStore outlets. This tutorial gives you a few options for refinishing with paint or stain. Once you've refinished the door, add your favorite games by hand or with templates—chess, checkers, and Spaceman (a nonviolent alternative to Hangman) are just a few ideas that the dads in your life might enjoy!
Coasters are something everyone can use, and they're easy to customize. Head to ReStore for your tiles, then check out this coaster tutorial, which includes how to varnish and waterproof the tiles. Make coasters using special photos, your own design, or other artwork. You can also paint the tiles/coasters!
If the dad-figure in your life is a baseball fan, this might be the perfect project for you. All you need is a 1" x 4" wood plank, several old baseballs, a measuring tape, a screwdriver, and some screws. Read the project notes in this article on remodelaholic.com (scroll down for the hat rack).
Whether the dad in your life is more tool-adept in the kitchen or the garage, here's a DIY project to help him keep track of his tools and carry loving reminders to work with him. The tutorial is for a personalized spatula, but you can easily adapt it to a hammer (or anything else with a wooden handle). Paint pens work great for this project.
