DIY Back-to-School Organization [VIDEO]

As we welcome August, the back-to-school season is upon us. Whether you're preparing to send kids to the bus stop or packing for your dorm, staying organized can be a huge help. In this episode of DIY Friday at the WCCO studio, New Brighton ReStore Manager Jan Hagerman shares simple space-saving tips.

Here are some of Jan's creative and affordable ideas:

  • Use an old case for craft supplies and storage
  • Repurpose used candle jars for make-up brushes, pencils, and more—clean out remaining wax with boiling water
  • Cover a piece of foam core with fun fabric (Jan used an old shirt) and put it in a thrifted picture frame to make a bulletin board
  • Hang a tiered fruit basket to hold paints, makeup, supplies, and more
  • Use small vintage boxes with character to keep your change

Jan recommends thinking about what you already have before shopping. Think about what's around your home that can be repurposed and reused! And if you do need to shop—remember that ReStore has a lot of tools and supplies for your space-saving needs: Command hooks, shower curtains, curtain rods, and much more.
