Finding (big) treasures at ReStore

What is that giant, octagon marble thing? It was one of the first items donated when the Minneapolis ReStore (2700 Minnehaha Avenue) opened last year.

ReStore shoppers and staff took some guesses (those are the post-it notes on it). Some saw a planter. Some saw a garbage receptacle. Dean saw an opportunity, and he bought it. He strapped it into his Studebaker and headed home.

Dean's a pretty handy guy. He did some measuring and then some welding and built a nice wheeled-base for it to stand on.

Then he rigged a slick electric winch system in his garage. Dean's a smart guy too because he googled how much the thing weighed based on its dimensions.

He drove the Studebaker out, it held, and the roof didn't collapse.

Next Dean dropped it onto the base he'd made and it fit like a glove. Now Dean's all set for summer with his unique new backyard bar. Way to go Dean!

So if you're still wondering what this is, it's a baptismal font. You never know what you're going to find (or can donate to) ReStores.
